For relevant results, it is also possible to define the time frames that vCenter Server will consider to generate the graphs. If you know a special time frame when a performance issue might have occurred, it is possible to isolate the graph to this range. In the advanced section, it is also possible to get real-time graphs. Once enabled, you will see the performance metrics refreshed every 20 seconds in the last hour as VMkernel captures them.

Various metrics can be selected to be included in a graph; it is also possible to choose between line and stacked graphs. Once the graphs are generated, they can be stored as image or CSV report for further processing. Customized graph settings can be stored in order to enable using then again.

In the following sections, we will focus on the various metric types that vCenter Server enables us to use.
